Alexander Sebastian Leith-Hay

These photographs record life at Leith Hall and on the estate during the 1890s. They include Highland cattle and images of the ageing Colonel Alexander Sebastian Leith-Hay.
1918–1939

Charles Arthur O’Neill Leith-Hay

This album follows the last laird’s short life from 1918 to 1939 and the beginning of the Second World War. Its photographs show his close attachment to Leith Hall, family life and the pursuits of a young man growing up between the wars.

Leith Hall and the Family, 1908–1909

A carefully preserved travel album associated with Violet Norma Gibson, eldest daughter of Florence Gibson, née Leith-Hay. The photographs document the family and Leith Hall in 1908–1909.

Peninsular War Images

Andrew Leith-Hay’s sketches from the Peninsular War, made between 1809 and 1812 at locations across Portugal and Spain.

A Pilgrimage: Palestine and Jordan During the First World War

Photographs taken by a nephew of Charles Edward Norman Leith-Hay during service with the Light Horse Field Ambulance. They record places that appear to have held personal and religious significance for him.
Darling Downs · c. 1845–1853

George Erskine Knight Fairholme

These lithographs, held by the National Gallery of Australia, are among the earliest visual records of colonial life on the Darling Downs. Fairholme arrived in Australia in 1840 and later settled with William and James Leith-Hay. Together they purchased Toolburra station in 1845 and worked the property for seven years.
The original archive also points researchers to the National Gallery of Australia and to W. R. F. Love’s University of Queensland study of Fairholme, the Leslies and the Leith-Hays.
